Class 43 Locomotives

A Focus on Class 43 Locomotives

A diesel electric locomotive class of which 197 were produced. Various companies operated Class 43 locomotives; these include Great Western Railway, London North East Railway, First Great Western, ScotRail, East Midlands Trains, Crosscountry and Virgin Trains (West Coast Trains). Additional operators including Network Rail who have and continue to use Class 43 locomotives on the railway network.

Certain Class 43 locomotives are named, with Class 43 - No. 43002 being named Sir Kenneth Grange. This is particularly important as recently Sir Kenneth Grange passed away on 21st July 2024. Sir Kenneth Grange was responsible for the design of the nose cone and interior layout of the Intercity 125 locomotives.

I have all intention of capturing more Class 43 locomotives before they are withdrawn from service. They have been a familiar sight on railways across the country from 1976.
