Class 158 and 159 Diesel Multiple Units (Sprinters) - GWR/SWR A focus on my favourite passenger Diesel Multiple Unit trains. The Class 158 and 159 units within SWR and GWR will be the primary focus for this page. The Class 158/159 units were trialled between 1984 and 1985. ScotRail were the first operator to operate the new type of Sprinters. The 158/159 Sprinters replaced heavy amounts of first generation Diesel Multiple Units and locomotive hauled trains. There was an eighteen month period between order date and delivery of the first prototype. The bid that British Rail Engineering Limited submitted was very heavily based on its very successful Class 455. I would like to thank my good friend David Hill for this information. Great Western Railway and South Western Railway operate a number of Class 158/159 Diesel Multiple Units. Below are my photographs of GWR and SWR 158/159's. SWR - 159008 at Westbury Railway Station. Many types of truck were used by Eddie Stobart including car transporters, curtain sided trailers, walking floor trailers and even transport for F1 racing cars. Eddie Stobart was once a familiar sight across the United Kingdom. Eddie Stobart became a logistics company rather than the haulage company it was once known as after a series of takeovers. Eddie Stobart vehicles were not always the familiar green, gold and red. The first vehicle purchased in 1960 was painted Post ...
