A Focus On GWR/SWR Class 158/159 Diesel Multiple Units

  Class 158 and 159 Diesel Multiple Units (Sprinters) - GWR/SWR A focus on my favourite passenger Diesel Multiple Unit trains. The Class 158 and 159 units within SWR and GWR will be the primary focus for this page. The  Class  158/159 units were trialled between 1984 and 1985. ScotRail were the first operator to operate the new type of Sprinters. The 158/159 Sprinters replaced heavy amounts of first generation Diesel Multiple Units and locomotive hauled trains. There was an eighteen month period between order date and delivery of the first prototype. The bid that British Rail Engineering Limited submitted was very heavily based on its very successful Class 455. I would like to thank my good friend David Hill for this information. Bristol - Tuesday 6th May 2025

Bristol Visit A visit was made to Bristol to observe the buses and trucks in the area. We visited the city centre and then Poplar Way for the Culina Depot. On the return journey home, we were aware of a Class 66 freight train passing Sherrington Lane which we quickly caught up with to photograph. Stagecoach - 11233 - SN69 ZDP in Horsefair, Bristol City Centre.
